Custom Semen Collection

Fertility continues to be the single most influential factor determining the profitability of a cow/calf operation. The use of artificial insemination has increasingly become a tool used by breeders to capitalize on the genetic value of individual animals. Using conventional artificial insemination, one may extend the use of an individual sire. Embryo transfer allows the genetics of an individual female to be amplified many times. In both cases one must rely on the use of frozen-thawed semen.

Among the many variables that affect the success or failure of a breeding program, the quality of the frozen semen ranks very high. Often the poor results in an AI program have been explained by criticizing the cow, the technician or even the weather. It seems the last place we look is to the semen. It is with this in mind that we believe it is of upmost importance that Camp Cooley Genetics offers the highest quality product to our customers.

Our purpose is to provide the highest quality custom semen collection available. To achieve this purpose, several processes and measures are met everyday to ensure quality. The first measure of excellence begins when your bull arrives at our facility. Bulls are boarded untied in 300 foot bull runs for their added comfort to allow for proper exercise and movement. Through several years of handling Bos indicus influenced cattle; we find this added comfort aids in temperament and anxiety. The next measure of distinction for Camp Cooley Genetics is in our semen handling/evaluation. All collected semen must pass a pre-freeze exam to even be processed in our facility. Once semen has been selected to be processed and frozen, it is packaged at concentrations that will insure optimum fertility. This semen must then pass our rigorous post thaw evaluation before being released. It is this final step that we believe to be most important. Evaluating the frozen-thawed semen gives our technicians the best opportunity to evaluate the characteristics that most affect fertility.

The increased use of AI in the beef industry depends, in large part, upon the potential successes that can be experienced in the field. By maintaining very high standards for semen quality, discarding what does not meet the standard, and having an informed industry, Camp Cooley Genetics hopes to help each AI program become a success.

Our commitment to quality has its roots in our desire to see the beef industry improve. As the use of AI increases in beef cattle we believe that we will see our industry and our beef quality achieve new levels of quality. It starts on your farms and ranches and we are proud to stand behind a high quality product and to be a part of your program.
