Genetic Partner - Rock Hill Brangus

Rock Hill Brangus

Camp Cooley Genetics is proud to announce a Genetic Partnership with Rock Hill Brangus, Kevin Crump, in Martin, Georgia. Kevin has been involved with agriculture most of his life. His initial interest in agriculture was instilled by his father, Mike Crump’s, passion for agriculture. Kevin’s primary business is poultry, finishing broilers for a commercial poultry company. Although his business life focuses on the poultry industry, Kevin has been around cattle all his life. Most days you will probably find Kevin around his farm with his loyal companion, Lizzie.

Kevin’s initial interest in cattle focused on Brahman and Brahman influenced cattle. He likes the heartiness and durability of a breed with some "ear" to perform in the southeast. In fact, Mike Crump steered his son towards the Brangus breed. Kevin and Mike both ran their first Brangus cows together before Kevin built up his own herd. Today, Kevin and his dad still work closely together managing both of their herds.

In 2005 Kevin bought his first registered Brangus cow from Camp Cooley. His initial investment was in donor cows, almost exclusively only doing embryo transfer work. Over the past four years, Kevin has increased his herd size to thirty registered cows, with 95% of them being directly Camp Cooley bred. To date, Rock Hill Brangus still does a small percentage of ET work, but predominately uses AI.

Kevin prefers running Rock Hill Brangus with a small herd. He values the quality control he has over the smaller herd size. He feels he can utilize more industry leading practices such as embryo transfer and artificial insemination with better quality.

Following the 2009 Customer Appreciation Sale, Kevin became interested in adding Rock Hill Brangus to the Camp Cooley Genetics’ Genetic Partner Program. Being a firm believer in the Camp Cooley program and focusing on quality over quantity, Rock Hill Brangus was a logical choice for the Genetic Partner Program. According to Kevin, "this is a perfect example of an opportunity for both sides to help each other and have a greater combined outcome."

By entering into the Genetic Partner Program, Rock Hill Brangus will take advantage of Camp Cooley Genetics’ marketing power and genetic consulting. Kevin is looking forward to utilizing the reputable and sought out advice and assistance from Camp Cooley Genetics staff members.

The future for Kevin and Rock Hill Brangus includes increasing his cow herd size while maintaining quality and control of top end genetics. He also wants to increase the use of embryo transfer and marketing genetics back in Texas, as well as, internationally. For now, Kevin and Lizzie will continue their watchful eye over their herd of elite Brangus cows and look forward to future Camp Cooley Genetics events.
