Genetic Partner - Lee McFarlin Brangus

Lee McFarlin Brangus

Camp Cooley Genetics is proud to announce a Genetic Partnership with Lee McFarlin and his family. Lee and his wife, Courtney, along with their two daughters, Callie and Chloe, live in Martin, Georgia. With a strong agriculture background, Lee enjoys raising both, cattle and commercial broilers, their primary business. The flexibility of both ventures allows Lee to stay at home with his wife and two little girls while working.

Lee has always enjoyed running cattle. He started in the commercial cattle business ten years ago. When the decision was made to investment more in registered seedstock and move away from the commercial market, Lee became interested in the Brangus breed. He knew the added value and vigor from Brangus cattle in the southeast would give him a distinct advantage over other local cattleman. In November 2005, Lee purchased his first Brangus cows from Camp Cooley and now runs almost 100 head of Brangus cows.

When Lee made the decision to enter the registered Brangus business, he knew that quality would be his primary focus. Lee has invested in some of the leading cows in the Brangus breed along with notable herd sires including, Blanda of Brinks 535R54. Currently, 90% of Lee’s herd is directly from Brinks bloodlines and Camp Cooley. By investing in some of the leading genetics, Lee’s current agenda is to make the most of the genetics he has while continuing to utilize AI and ET to further the progress of his cattle operation.

On an average, Lee artificially inseminates over 50% of his herd with another 10%-15% of his herd utilizing embryo transfer. In Lee’s opinion, the A.I. calves perform better. He also likes the advantage of utilizing the best genetics available. According to Lee, "A.I. allows me to breed to leading sires and match the individual cattle with traits that will best compliment their genetics." With these practices, Lee hopes to continue to increase the quality and size of his herd. Lee’s future goals for the cattle include raising top end genetics and growing his herd size to around 150 cows. He plans to continue to replace his remaining commercial cattle with registered Brangus seedstock. To help complete these future ambitions, Lee chose to get involved in the Genetic Partnership Program. As a former cooperator for Camp Cooley, Lee feels his cattle will have a distinct advantage being marketed through the Camp Cooley Genetics program. Marketing benefits and consulting guidance were key factors leading to the decision to join the Genetic Partnership. With Lee’s passion for superior Brangus cattle and the Genetic Partnership with Camp Cooley Genetics, you can be assured he will definitely be a person to recognize in the Brangus breed.
