Genetic Partner - L & K Farms

L & K Farms

Camp Cooley Genetics is proud to announce a Genetic Partnership with L & K Farms of Monticello, Georgia, Lewis and Kathey Rice, and their grandson, Little Lewis.

The Rice’s have been in the registered Brangus business for seven years. They have been leading Camp Cooley customers for five of those years. They currently run fifty registered cows. All are either Camp Cooley bred or descendants of Brinks Brangus bloodlines. While some may consider this family new to the Brangus business, these Georgia natives are no strangers in the beef industry. Lewis and Kathey have raised cattle for over thirty years, but decided to make the change to a purebred Brangus herd primarily for their grandson.

It is no surprise Lewis and Kathey are in the registered Brangus business for their grandson, Little Lewis. Whether Little Lewis and his grandfather are together at a Camp Cooley Sale with their "matching shirts" or he is at home in Georgia, Little Lewis makes it a point to learn everything he can about Brangus cattle. The Rice’s find great joy and take pride in making their cattle a family business while building a solid foundation for their grandson’s future.

Lewis and Kathey began their journey with Camp Cooley and Brangus cattle as they watched Little Lewis’ growing interest in beef cattle. When Little Lewis turned seven years old, Lewis and Kathey took him to his first Camp Cooley sale. It didn’t take long for the Rice family to see the power and quality of Camp Cooley and Brinks bloodlines. According to Lewis, "It doesn’t cost anymore to feed a good cow than it does a sorry cow." With that in mind, they have built a small but strong herd of Brangus cattle using Camp Cooley and Brinks bloodlines.

After building up numbers and quality through their sale purchases and their breeding program, Lewis and Kathey began seeking a means to profitably market their cattle. Knowing the advantage of selling cattle through the Camp Cooley sale ring, L & K Farms became one of Camp Cooley’s cooperators. L & K Farms has been an integral partner in the cooperator program by supplying leading bulls and females to the Camp Cooley sales each year. Lewis, Kathey, and Little Lewis have maintained their strong support of the Camp Cooley program even through the challenging times.

When the opportunity to become a genetic partner was made available, L & K Farms made the switch from a cooperator to a genetic partner. With their first-hand knowledge and experience of what the LB brand can do for Brangus cattle, they are energized about the future. The benefits of Camp Cooley’s marketing power and consulting services are also exciting.

Little Lewis looks forward to building the numbers of this quality herd each year. He seeks avenues to learn all he can and he knows he will apply the knowledge and experience he is gathering toward the cattle. With Little Lewis’ excitement and guidance from Lewis and Kathey, he is well on his way to becoming a natural leader of the beef industry in the future.

I would encourage you to visit with the Rice family and look forward to seeing great progeny coming from the Genetic Partnership with L & K Farms.
