Genetic Partner - Chisom Trail Brangus

Chisom Trail Brangus

Camp Cooley Genetics proudly announces the addition of Chisom Trail Brangus, Clarkesville, Georgia to its Genetic Partnership Program. Chisom Trail Brangus is owned by Nathan and Amanda Hunnicutt.

Chisom Trail Brangus and Camp Cooley Genetics are more than just a passion for Nathan Hunnicutt. They are his livelihood. Nathan not only raises registered Brangus cattle, he is also a sales staff member for Camp Cooley Genetics. His duties are to help market Camp Cooley Genetics cattle and provide service to Camp Cooley customers throughout Georgia and the southeastern United States. Nathan and his wife, Amanda, have two sons, Dylan and Brandon. Keeping ever busy they also raise laying hens and own and operate a child care center.

Growing up, Nathan fed cattle through 4-H and high school projects. He enjoyed working with cattle daily. It was during this time that Nathan realized Brahman influenced cattle seemed to perform better. With his passion and desire for Brahman influenced cattle, it came as no surprise that Nathan and his wife began Chisom Trail Brangus in 1997.

In the fall of 1998, Nathan made his first trip to Camp Cooley Ranch. He immediately liked the many benefits of the program and quality of the cattle he saw. It didn’t take long for Nathan to see, "what the quality and notability of Camp Cooley Brangus cattle could do for Chisom Trail Brangus". This was the driving force to join the Camp Cooley Cooperator Program.

Six years ago, Nathan took it a step further. He could see his success in supplying cattle to Camp Cooley’s Cooperator Program. He saw how he improved his cow herd. He realized how he was making more money. He believed so much in the program and cattle that he took it another step further..... he became a full time staff member helping market and sell Camp Cooley genetics and services throughout the Southeast. As Nathan states, "I decided if I can make a career out of a passion and help others, I can’t go wrong."

With all of his other responsibilities Nathan has chosen to keep Chisom Trail Brangus a small, exclusive operation. He currently runs about thirty cows. He is a strong proponent of embryo transfer. He uses ET in over 50% of his cows. All other females are artificially inseminated to hand selected sires. Nathan prefers using these advances in reproduction as it allows his cattle to stay at the forefront of newer genetics. Eventually, Nathan would like to see his herd grow approximately fifty high class registered cows. He wants to increase the embryo work of his herd to 80%. Nathan finds a deep satisfaction in working in the cattle business and developing a set of cattle he can pass on to his children.

The future is perhaps one of the biggest reasons Chisom Trail Brangus joined the Camp Cooley Genetic Partnership Program. Nathan feels the partnership will add security and stability to the marketability of his herd. As a loyal customer and a dedicated staff member, Nathan has seen first hand how Camp Cooley Genetics can add to the bottom line. "Everyone can go out and say they have ´Brinks´ cattle, but unless they come from the source they just aren’t the same." Nathan knows that together, with Camp Cooley Genetics, Chisom Trail Brangus is destined for a prosperous future. It is a great opportunity for both.
