A Word from our Staff Veterinarian...

Dear Camp Cooley Genetics Customers:

I have worked closely with the Camp Cooley staff and herd since 1991, and it is truly rewarding to be a full time member of the team.

A strong herd health program is essential for cattle to perform at their highest genetic potential. One of the services provided by Camp Cooley Genetics is consulting with our clients in all aspects of herd health management. We want to help you establish and maintain the necessary protocols to ensure your herd health program meets the high standards of Camp Cooley Genetics.

We use Beef Quality Assurance Guidelines for all herd health protocols. Our staff receives training sessions twice a year to ensure Beef Quality Assurance Guidelines are met. Please contact Camp Cooley Genetics if you are interested in this training.

Our herd health program includes the following protocols:

  • Needles are changed with every injection
  • Palpation sleeves are used only once
  • Facilities are thoroughly cleaned after each use

Vaccinations, strategically timed for optimal benefits, include the following:

  • Annual 8-Way Clostridial, BVD, IBR, P13, BRSV, Vibrio, 5-Way Lepto,
    Histophilus Somni and Trichomoniasis
  • An Autogenous bacterin consisting of E.Coli, Mannheimia Haemolytica
    and Pasturella Multocida
  • Rotavirus and Corona Virus Vaccines

In addition, the herd is de-wormed at least twice a year and quality minerals are available free choice throughout the year. Multi-mineral injections are used, as needed.

The Camp Cooley Genetics herd is certified Brucellosis free with annual testing performed in the spring. Our on-going Bovine Leukosis and Johne’s disease control program was implemented in 1994. A serologic blood test is performed on each member of the herd one year of age or older. The entire herd has tested negative for persistently infected BVD. Please let Camp Cooley Genetics know if you are interested in establishing these protocols for your herd.

Doing the right thing has always been the status quo here at Camp Cooley Genetics. Herd health and disease control is no exception. We are happy to help you tailor a program that fits your herd and your environment. Feel free to contact me with any questions you might have.

See you at the sale!
