Ken Hughes has been involved in the cow/calf business his whole life. He has been the mastermind of the Brinks Brangus herd for over 30 years. He started with Glen Brinkman in Eureka, KS. When Klaus Birkel moved the cattle to Texas in 1993, Ken moved with them.
Ken made all the decisions at Camp Cooley on how the cattle were bred, culled, and managed over the years. Anyone who saw the result of Kens dedication and management realized his innate knowledge and love for cattle. It was evident in the history of the past sales at Camp Cooley Ranch. The quality and condition of the cattle were next to none.
Ken is an expert, not only in genetics and mating decisions, but also in AI, and Embryo Transfer. He understands pasture management and handles the commercial hay operation on the ranch. With years of hands-on experience he knows how to manage large crews so that they are efficient and effective in their day-to-day work.
Rick Warneke is a graduate of Montana State University in 1977 with a degree in Ag Business. He has been involved in all aspects of the beef cattle industry most of his life. His most recent tenure has been Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for Camp Cooley Ranch. He made his mark prior to that by establishing Camp Cooley Beef as a customer oriented arm of Camp Cooley Ranch.
Being self-employed for over 25 years gave Rick valuable insight into making operations work. He owned and operated Worland Livestock Auction in Worland, Wyoming. In addition, he was a partner in Washakie Feeders and B & T Livestock, an order buying company. Through the years, Rick leased and operated different ranches in Montana and Wyoming and understands that the bottom line is key to a successful business.
Rick has an extensive background in managing large crews, livestock marketing, budgeting, and ranch management.
